Join us at Dead Ink Bookshop to welcome LAMBA award winning author Jeanne Thornton to Liverpool, come to visit all the way from The States to celebrate the launch of her newest novel A/S/L, in discussion with Joan Burnett.
Preceded by Jeanne's previous novel, Summer Fun, A/S/L is a similarly evocative masterwork of friendship, queerness, and identity, confronting what it means to exist in a sometimes hostile world.
Meet Lilith, Sash and Abraxa.
Lilith might be the first trans woman to ever work as an Assistant Loan Underwriter at Dollarwise Investments in Brooklyn.
Sash is in Brooklyn as well, working as a research assistant and part-time webcam dominatrix.
And Abraxa is just across the Hudson River, sleeping on the floor of a friend's grandparents' Jersey City home.
They first crossed paths as teenagers, in 1998, when they started making a game together — The Saga of the Sorceress, which remains unfinished, and to this day, the three of them have never met.
A/S/L is a queer, trans masterpiece, about the codes we learn to survive, about the strangers we meet on internet forums, and the irrevocable impact they have upon our lives.
Jeanne Thornton is Senior Editor at The Feminist Press and has worked in publishing since 2008. She is the recipient of multiple awards for her fiction including the Judith A Markowitz Emerging Writers Award, the Lambda Literary Award for Trans Fiction in 2021 and is also a Lambda Literary Fellow. She is the author of three novels; The Dream of Doctor Bantam, Summer Fun and A/S/L.
Joan Burnett is well-known by those involved with the arts and culture sector in Liverpool. She is a trustee of Homotopia, Visitor Services Manager at FACT, LGBTQ+ activist, and all-round ray of sunshine.
