Alex Pheby returns to Dead Ink Books upon the publication of Waterblack, the monumental conclusion to his Cities of the Weft trilogy, following Mordew and Malarkoi - some of the boldest and most original fantasy writing of recent years. As a whole, the trilogy is a visionary, psychedelic epic that combines the best of Michael Moorcock and Mervyn Peake with its own unique blend of philosophical enquiry, swashbuckling adventure, strident politics and strung-out surrealist imagery.

If Alex's last visit to the shop is anything to go by, expect a frank discussion of art's role in society, some insight into one of the more unusual writing practices we've heard about, and to leave with a fire in your belly to bring about an all-encompassing social, political and artistic revolution.

Alex Pheby is an author and academic. Alex’s second novel, Playthings, published by Galley Beggar Press in 2015, was shortlisted for the 2016 Wellcome Book Prize. His third novel, Lucia, published in 2018, went on to be the joint winner of the 2019 Republic of Consciousness Prize. Alex’s fourth novel, Mordew was published by Galley Beggar in August 2020, attracting widespread praise and announcing him as a bold new voice in literary fantasy.
